Why is transport a problem for the Mornington Peninsula

Peninsula’s Ageing Profile – Ranked no 1 in Victoria’s metropolitan areas, for rates of dementia in 2010, and no 1 in projections to 2050 (Alzheimer’s Australia).

Retirement Belt – The region is attractive for retirees, more than 21.5% of the population is currently aged over 65 years, compared to the Greater Melbourne average 13.1% (ABS 2011 data).

Taxi services are limited – The region has one taxi for every 4500 residents compared with Metropolitan Melbourne residents who have one taxi for every 904 people.

A Social Inclusion Needs Assessment completed in 2011 by the Frankston and Mornington Primary Care Partnership found that transport was the number one issue for all 34 agencies surveyed (Frankston and Mornington Council, Peninsula Health, Vision Australia, Oz Child).
